The Jersey TechAwards: Celebrating a thriving sector

Tony Moretta, chief executive of Digital Jersey reflects on this year’s Jersey TechAwards

THE fifth annual Jersey TechAwards were our biggest and best yet. We celebrated the Island’s thriving digital sector and showcased how digital is not only a valuable sector in itself but an essential supporter of all other sectors.

It is Digital Jersey’s mission to ‘accelerate Jersey’s digital future’, something which is increasingly important to our Island. Our role is to help local businesses and public sector agencies to harness the opportunities that technology can bring Jersey to enhance productivity, solve some of our biggest social and environmental challenges, and enable our economy to grow.

But Digital Jersey is the facilitator, the catalyst, the coordinator of all these opportunities – it is the individuals and companies represented through our awards, from those still at school to those companies at the forefront of technology innovation, that will deliver on them.

That is why, as we celebrated five years of digital excellence through our awards this year, it was so good to be able to come together once again to celebrate the achievements of the past year, not just of the nominees and winners but of all those who contribute to Jersey’s digital sector.

This was the biggest-ever Jersey TechAwards event, with nearly 500 attendees, demonstrating the growth of the digital sector, the rise in the adoption of technology in nondigital sectors of the economy, the growing importance of digital solutions in all areas of society, and the value added by digital to the Jersey economy.

I hope to see even more of you compete in next year’s awards.

A WORD FROM THE 2023 JERSEY TECHAWARDS HEADLINE SPONSOR, C5 ALLIANCE

‘These awards are an important milestone in the Island’s calendar and provide a wonderful opportunity to recognise the talent we have here in Jersey,’ said Stuart Richford, group commercial director at C5 Alliance.

‘We should be encouraged that the Island has so many innovators and entrepreneurs who are pushing boundaries through technology, creating solutions for Islanders and the wider world alike. It is this ongoing drive for innovation that will continue to ensure Jersey’s long-term success and these awards provide a fantastic opportunity to celebrate that.’

SUPPORTED CHARITY: ENABLE JERSEY

This year, the Jersey TechAwards supported Enable Jersey, a local charity which aims to create an inclusive community in the Island where disabled people can live a life without limits.

‘We are hugely grateful to the team at Digital Jersey for selecting us as the supported charity for this year’s Jersey TechAwards,’ said Enable Jersey chief executive Sean Pontin. ‘Although we are a small charity, we have a big vision, and this support – both financial and in terms of profile – will be incredibly helpful as we continue to champion a strong, capable and inclusive community in Jersey, remove the barriers that limit disabled Islanders and drive change that ultimately benefits everyone in our community.’

THE JUDGES

Head judge Leonie McCrann was joined on the panel by Dr Clare Newman, Emma German, Jason Laity, Dave Cartwright, Ed Daubeney, Nicolle Maltwood, Jensen Nixon, Matt Palmer and Joel Mills.
