WEEK 5 UPDATE
Welcome to the weekly update of the Ashburton Jersey School’s Investment Challenge.
Equity markets have been flat over the past week as investors weigh the path of interest rates, corporate earnings, economic growth, and inflation. The US, UK and European central banks met and raised interest rate as expected. Markets did stumble after the release of exceptionally stronger than expected jobs data last Friday, which revived expectations of further US rate hikes than predicted by the markets.
For the teams, performance has been largely positive. The leader board table shows that the difference between the top 3 teams is extremely tight with only 0.44% between them.
Some stocks have delivered a strong performance recently and this has resulted in a change in leadership. Two teams from Victoria College, ‘The Wharf of Wall Street’ and ‘BSG Investments’ now occupy the top two spots. Both teams hold Tesla, whose shares price is up over 70% this year and represents the main contributor to their performance. Jersey College For Girl’s ‘MOTA’ team have slipped into third place, but are only a whisker behind.
It is also worth noting that Highlands College now have all three teams in the top ten with ‘Girl Power’ and the ‘Anglo-Portuguese Alliance’ making the grade.
The school table show that JCG retains top spot, but Highlands College is now second and only 0.06% behind.
