Family history festival starts at Jersey Archive

Islanders are being invited to attend various talks and workshops to learn more about researching the stories of their ancestors.

One of the festival’s main events is a talk by guest speaker Dr Nick Barratt, a historian and specialist BBC archivist who led a team of researchers for the first four series of the BBC series Who do you think you are?, which traces the family trees of celebrities.

He went on to present and appear in other shows including Hidden House Histories, Secrets from the Attic, So you think you’re Royal? Live the Dream as Seen on Screen and Missing Millions.

Dr Barratt is due to give a talk entitled ‘Family History and the Media in the 21st century. The impact of Who do you think you are?’ at 2 pm tomorrow.

At 10 am on Sunday he is due to deliver a talk on the sources accessible to modern English genealogists.

There will also be talks by Jersey Heritage senior archivist Stuart Nicolle and others on subjects ranging from finding out about ancestors with a criminal or military history, to identifying where they were buried and researching the history of streets in Jersey.
