Jersey Airport has been evacuated this morning while emergency services, including armed police, attended the scene to deal with a “serious incident”.
One eye-witness said that the incident had appeared to be a fire alarm at first, with passengers moved to the car park, but this area was then cleared as the entire airport grounds were evacuated.
“We were told it was a serious incident and that it could be a few hours before it was open again,” she said. Another eye-witness said the airport was in “full lockdown”.
Islanders are being asked to avoid the airport, with disruption to all flights anticipated until further notice, according to police, and no bus services to the airport.
Those passengers who were evacuated were told to return home or led to the nearby Strive sports centre.
Police added that updates on the incident will “be provided as soon as possible”.
