Strong winds force cancellation of Jersey ferry sailings

FERRY passengers travelling over the bank-holiday weekend are facing disruption after strong winds forced DFDS to cancel a number of sailings to and from Jersey.

Services between the Island and both St Malo and Poole have been cancelled today and tomorrow, with additional crossings being laid on on Tuesday to help affected passengers.

The disruption comes as Jersey Met forecasts strengthening south-westerly winds, reaching force six to seven for a time overnight, with seas becoming rather rough to rough.

DFDS said the following sailings had been cancelled because of the adverse weather:

Sunday 30 August: St Malo–Jersey at 6pm and Jersey–St Malo at 7.55pm.
Monday 31 August: St Malo–Jersey at 7.15am, Jersey–St Malo at 9.10am, Poole–Jersey at 1.30pm and Jersey–Poole at 7pm.

The ferry operator said all affected customers would be notified.

To help minimise disruption, four additional services have been scheduled for Tuesday 1 September: St Malo–Jersey at 6.30am, Jersey–St Malo at 8.25am, Poole–Jersey at 8am and Jersey–Poole at 1.30pm.

DFDS apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and advised anyone wishing to discuss alternative travel arrangements to contact its customer-care team.

The disruption coincides with a yellow tide warning issued for Jersey this evening, with strong winds expected to bring waves and sea spray over sea walls along parts of the south coast.
