A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested in connection with a “small fire” on the roof of a residential building in St Helier this morning.
States police are appealing for witnesses after emergency services were called to Le Coie Flats on Springfield Road at around 6.30am following reports of smoke.
Jersey Fire and Rescue Service quickly brought the blaze under control. The fire, which measured approximately one metre by one metre, was contained to the roof of the building.
Police confirmed there were no reports of injuries, and no residents were evacuated.
Several roads were closed while emergency services dealt with the fire and ensured the area was safe.
Most have since reopened, although Janvrin Road, alongside Springfield Stadium, remains closed.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen suspicious activity in the area to come forward.
Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage that could assist with their enquiries.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Jersey Police on 612612 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via its online reporting form.
