PLANS have been submitted to demolish a residential care home in St Peter and build 11 one-bedroom apartments.
If approved, the application would see Longfield Villa Care Home on La Rue de Bocage in St Peter knocked down for supported-living accommodation.
Apex Nursing Agency Limited has submitted the planning application, which would also create facilities for the care manager on-site.
The current buildings are over 40 years old and considered to be” outdated”, according to the planning documents.
Similar plans were put forward in May 2025. On that occasion, 14 apartments were proposed to replace the existing care home, although this application was ultimately refused due to the site being within the built-up area boundary, and within the water pollution safeguard area.
The new plans also include creating ancillary storage space, parking spaces and communal amenity spaces.
According to the planning documents, the proposed development will be “larger than the existing buildings on the site”, however will “provide a positive restoration of the road edge, grain and character appropriate to the village context”.
The documents also state that the redevelopment will be more visible from nearby site Elmfield – a 19th century house and listed historical site – but it is argued that the proposals will “improve the grain and character of the setting context”.
A construction environmental management plan is in place to ensure there is minimal disruption to surrounding residents and to reduce environmental impact while demolitions take place, if approved.
