MONITORING continues to take place at buildings damaged by a sinkhole which opened in town last week.

The sinkhole, which was caused by a burst water main on Rouge Bouillon, led to a section of road being closed when it appeared by the entrance to College Gardens.

It also resulted in cracks appearing in the walls of the building on the corner of Clarendon Road and Rouge Bouillon, prompting investigations by building control to determine whether or not the property is safe.

In an update on Monday afternoon, the Infrastructure and Environment Department said Clarendon Road remained open southbound towards town.

Diversions continue to be in place and Islanders are urged to only travel to the area if necessary.

Building monitoring is continuing and repairs are being assessed, according to the government.

A further update will be issued on Friday after 1pm.
