Plans for Jersey Sport – an organisation designed to support sports clubs and bring in additional investment – have been in the pipeline for several years.
A budget of £1.15 million has been set aside for Jersey Sport in the Medium Term Financial Plan and that level of funding is expected to be maintained until the end of 2019. Assistant Economic Development Minister Steve Pallett, who has responsibility for sport, said that following approval from the States, the body could be ‘ready to go within a matter of weeks’.
He said: ‘This concept has been the subject of extensive public consultation. Jersey Sport will be an external body with the freedom to be a voice for sport.’
The proposition was adopted by 39 votes to two. Deputy Tadier and Deputy Geoff Southern voted against the proposition.
