Mental health building is ‘not acceptable’, says Health chief

Tiles falling from the roof and potholed roads leading up to Orchard House – where Islanders are treated for conditions including depression, psychosis and anxiety – were highlighted to the Health and Social Services Scrutiny Panel.

Due to the state of building, Julie Garbutt, chief officer for Health and Social Services, invited panel members to visit the site to see the conditions first hand.

The panel also heard that a £350,000 feasibility study looking at the Island’s mental health services and the facilities needed is now under way.
