The JEP contacted Jersey Bowl – which operates under the MFA label – after it emerged on Thursday that staff at the MFA Guernsey Bowl were being made redundant on Thursday as it was suddenly announced the business was closing immediately.
The building, which is on Victoria Avenue, St Sampson’s, was locked up and a sign placed in the window, and staff in Guernsey only found out about the closure after turning up for work on Thursday morning.
The MFA manager for the region, who was on-site in Guernsey, confirmed the centre would be permanently closed, and that it was not just a temporary measure. The building has been marketed for £3.2 million.
No one from MFA Bowl’s head office in the UK was available for comment.
However, Dean Cheetham, general manager at MFA Bowl Jersey, said the bowling centre in St Peter was run by a different company to that which operates MFA Guernsey Bowl.
Mr Cheetham said: ‘We are open as usual. Jersey is a completely different company to Guernsey.
‘We are owned by MFA Properties Limited so it’s a different company.’
