CHEESE, sausages, cider and other French products will be on sale when the Norman Market returns to St Helier next week for the first time in 2022.

Organised by the Maison de Normandie, the market will operate in Royal Square from Wednesday 8 to Friday 10 June before moving to Broad Street for the weekend of 11 and 12 June.

Following challenges relating to travel and Covid-19 restrictions, organisers are hoping for a return to normal for the market, with traders having regularly visited Jersey during the summer and in December prior to 2020.

A retailer specialising in soaps and bags will be joining the visiting group for the first time since 2019, while other products available include sausages, rillettes, fruit, vegetables and a wide variety of cheese.

A Maison de Normandie stall will be selling a range of products made in Normandy, including gin, biscuits, honey, jam, nougat and the Calvados-based apéritif p’tit zef.

When the market last visited Jersey in December, restrictions brought in as a result of Brexit meant that traders were unable to take some food products back to France. A spokesperson for Maison de Normandie said there had been discussions with Island retailers aimed to ensure that any remaining produce after the forthcoming visit could be sold rather than wasted.

All the stalls will be open from 9am until 7pm daily, with selected outlets opening earlier at 8am or trading longer into the evening. The first day’s trading on Wednesday is due to commence by 10am, while the market is due to close at 5.30pm on Sunday.
