Jersey gets £1.6m for work on drugs ring

Since 2005, Jersey lawyers have worked to seize the assets of traffickers involved in smuggling pharmaceuticals into the US and selling them online.

More than £3.2 million linked to the criminal enterprise – and once hidden in Jersey bank accounts – has been seized with the help of the Island’s Law Officers’ Department.

In January, Jersey’s Attorney General, Robert MacRae, concluded a deal with the US authorities which means that £1.6 million of the seized cash will be kept in Jersey.

The money will be held in the Criminal Offences Confiscation Fund. A total of £16 million from the fund was put towards the new £24 million States police headquarters at Green Street.
