LAST weekend was charged with excitement as the mixed league volleyball teams clashed in a series of nail-biting matches.
Athletes from the Coastal Cardinals, Ocean Ospreys, Eastern Eagles, Headland Harriers, Frontier Falcons, and Northern Nighthawks showcased their prowess on the court in the penultimate round of fixtures for the mixed league campaign, before the coveted indoor season begins in the new year.
The Coastal Cardinals kicked off the weekend with a stunning 21-19 victory over the Headland Harriers. The Cardinals displayed remarkable teamwork, with Kiera Melville earning the MVP title for her performance.
The second set pushed both teams to their limits, with the Harriers narrowly clinching a 21-20 win, followed by an 11-5 decider to claim the series.
In another thrilling series, the Ocean Ospreys edged out the Frontier Falcons with two victories to keep them in the hunt of catching the runaway league leaders, Eastern Eagles.
The Ospreys soared to a 21-19 victory in the first set and maintained their momentum throughout, with a close 21-20 win in the second. Chris Milton shone as the MVP, delivering powerful serves and strategic plays that left the audience in awe.
The Frontier Falcons remain in trouble at the bottom of the league, now four points adrift of those above them.
In a monumental clash, the top placed Eastern Eagles faced off against the third placed Northern Nighthawks in yet another intense battle.
The Eagles dominated their first set winning 21-11, but the Nighthawks fought back ferociously to win the second game 21-15.
The division’s pace-setter’s secured a conclusive victory in the third match, 11-8, showcasing Ronaldo Gomes as their MVP with his unbeatable spikes and defensive marvels.
The Eastern Eagles now sit comfortably atop the rest, with a nice four point cushion between themselves and the Ospreys in second.
