St Helier leads fundraising appeal for Madeira victims

The parish of St Helier is spearheading the campaign – called the Madeira Wildfire Appeal – and is urging all Islanders to do what they can to raise funds for those made homeless by the fires, which swept into the capital Funchal from surrounding countryside earlier this week.

A collection bucket has been placed at the Town Hall, and SandpiperCI, which employs a large number of Madeirans, is collecting funds at its stores.

Further fundraising initiatives are due to be announced in the coming weeks.
