Named to mark the 500th anniversary of the incorporation of Trinity House, the purpose-built 5.5 metre rowing boats, designed by former Olympic medallist Jo Richards and constructed of moulded plastic, are equipped for four oarsmen and a coxswain and they can, if required, be powered by an outboard motor.
The two rowing boats replace Admiralty Sailing Craft, which are no longer used on official courses. In Sea Cadet units, the ASCs are being phased out, as the Trinity 500 boats are purchased by individual units or loaned by MOD.
The T500 dinghy donated by Rotary Club de la Manche was made possible as a result of a part of the distribution of £30,000 in charitable funds to celebrate the club’s recent 30th anniversary.
