In closing his evidence to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry, Mr Bailhache, who was Attorney General during the major States police investigation, gave a robust defence of the Island’s justice system.
He also praised former deputy police chief Lenny Harper for opening the investigation, known as Operation Rectangle.
He went on to describe how although Mr Harper had taken a hostile stance towards him and the Law Officers’ Department, he was right to start the investigation.
In his evidence, Mr Bailhache also said he had received repeated legal advice that the claims of physical abuse made against former education director Mario Lundy did not meet the evidential test.
