Last week details of a new income-tax-style health charge on Islanders were published within the Medium Term Financial Plan Addition, which is due to be debated in the States in the autumn.
The Addition, which updated last year’s financial plans, proposes that the new charge would be an additional levy of 0.5 per cent on people’s income from 2018 – if they are on the maximum 20 per cent tax rate – and would rise to one per cent in 2019.
Islanders below the income-tax threshold would not pay the charge, while those on marginal relief or earning above a proposed £164,000 income cap would pay a reduced amount.
