The Musical Originals Training Choir was named National Children’s Choir of the Year following a competition at Symphony Hall in Birmingham and it is now in the running for the overall title of National Choir of the Year 2016.
The group, made up of 28 girls and boys aged between seven and 12, took the title after competing against three other choirs.
Choir director, Imogen Nicholls said: ‘The Island must be so proud of these exceptional children. Months of hard work resulted in an immaculate performance that moved the audience to tears in one of the great concert venues of Europe. It was extraordinary.
‘The judges said they touched the hearts of the audience with their singing and their storytelling and performed to the highest standard, which would tax many adult choirs.’
The choir is now due to sing in a grand final at the Wales Millennium Centre in December, where they will compete against five other choirs from around the country – which will also include adult groups – for the National Choir of the Year title. This competition will be televised by the BBC.
