Nursing home closed due to huge landslip

Tonnes of soil and rock collapsed in front of the Cheval Roc Nursing and Residential Home at Bonne Nuit on the evening of 9 March after the Island was lashed by heavy rain and 75 mph winds and battered by rough seas and the next day engineers assessed the safety of the building and gave the residents, who had just moved in, the all-clear to remain in the home.

Chris Shelton, director of LV Care Group, which runs the home, said that engineers were ‘very comfortable’ that the building was structurally safe, although three unoccupied rooms closest to the collapse were left vacant until further safety checks were carried out.

Now, after further assessment, the decision has been taken to close the home and find alternative accommodation for the eight residents and Mr Shelton said that decision had been made to ensure the ‘comfort and safety’ of the residents, who he hopes can move back in as soon as possible.
