The firm is currently refurbishing the building and is proposing to combine its food and homeware offering on the same floor.
Colin MacLeod, chief executive of the Co-op, confirmed that they were exploring whether other non-food retailers would be interested in moving into the first floor, which is currently occupied by Homemaker.
But he stressed that the firm would make better use of space to ensure that both the supermarket and the Homemaker store would not see a reduction in products.
