In possession of a 100 per cent record as manager after wins against the Navy FA, Panjab FA and Essex & Suffolk Border League, Little named an 18-man squad for the 100th final yesterday as he concludes preparations for the game earmarked as a priority for his six-month appointment.

That squad excludes forwards Kieran Lester and Daryl Wilson – the previous two Football Combination Player of the Year award winners – and the manager appears unafraid of planning a conservative display.

‘Knowing what to do when the opposition have got the ball makes you a better team,’ he said. ‘Having a team that doesn’t want to lose while believing they can win is a strong asset, rather than being a team that “goes out to play” – I don’t warm to that sentence very often. Not wanting to lose prepares the team to win a little better.’
