The Jersey2Africa4Football Foundation, which started by donating second-hand kits to sports teams in the Kenyan capital, is now hoping to expand and focus on attracting corporate sponsorship.
In an effort to boost the charity’s status, former Jersey Football Association president Ricky Weir, who launched the project three years ago, has been in contact with Southampton and Kenya midfielder Victor Wanyama about endorsing it.
‘I have had a couple of stabs at Wanyama. We are not looking for him to do anything in particular, just to endorse what we do. I had a brief meeting with him after a Kenya game when I was over there before Christmas and I am now trying to get back in touch,’ he said.
The former JFA man has travelled to Kenya’s capital on several occasions in recent years to offer coaching sessions and donate kits and money to help children living in squalid conditions in the Mukuru district.
