A CAMPAIGN offering £50 vouchers for food or fuel has been relaunched to help Jersey families who face the “tough decision” between heating and eating over the Christmas period.

Caring Cooks of Jersey first launched the Food or Fuel scheme in 2022 and has distributed 1,400 vouchers to families in need since then.

The charity – which aims to teach children and their families about the importance of nutrition and cooking wholesome meals – hopes to surpass the number of vouchers distributed in previous years.

To ensure that an even greater number of families receive support, Caring Cooks is seeking to raise a total of £50,000 this winter to fund the cost of vouchers.

To help reach this target, the charity is calling on Islanders, businesses and philanthropists to support the campaign through donations or by raising awareness.

Yvonne Corbin, chief executive of Caring Cooks, said: “The Food or Fuel campaign is a vital initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable families in Jersey during the winter months when rising living costs, soaring energy prices, and food insecurity create a harsh reality for many.

“The campaign was launched in 2022 to provide vouchers that can be redeemed for food, gas, or electricity, helping families avoid the tough decision of choosing between heating their homes or feeding their children.”

She added: “This winter, the campaign is not just about providing short-term relief but also building a stronger, more resilient community.

“Every donation, no matter how big or small, will directly support families in need and help them navigate the financial pressures of winter.”

Recipients can redeem the vouchers at the Coop, Island Energy and Jersey Electricity.

Distribution is managed through local charities, schools, social workers and organisations like Family Nursing and Home Care.
