Meanwhile, others headed to one of the Island’s many beaches to soak up some rays.

At around 3.20 pm on Sunday, Jersey’s Met Department tweeted to say that the temperature at the Maison St Louis Observatory in Jersey was ‘27.7°C and still rising’.

Members of St Catherine’s Sailing Club enjoyed perfect weather for their annual outing to the Ecréhous on Sunday, and made a short trip across to the exposed Ecrevière sandbank at low tide for a game of cricket.

Meanwhile, hundreds of cruise ship passengers could not have wished for better weather when they came ashore on a high spring tide for sightseeing excursions around the Island.

Ocean Princess moored off the south coast at around 8 am for the first of three trips to Jersey this month that will bring more than 2,000 visitors to the Island as part of eight-day cruises around the British Isles organised by Princess Cruises.

Ocean Princess, which boasts 11 decks with 338 cabins, has a capacity to carry 680 passengers and 379 crew.

The ship is due to return on 10 and 18 August.
