Thai murder verdict due on Christmas Eve

Defence lawyers representing bar workers Zaw Lin and Wai Phyo say the verdict is due to be read at 9 am Thai time on Christmas Eve – 2 am locally at a court in Koh Samui.

If found guilty the pair could be sentenced to death at a later date.

Andy Hall, international affairs adviser for the Migrant Worker Rights Network, which is representing the defendants, told the JEP that ‘everything was still on track’ for the verdict in less than a week’s time.

The announcement will mark the culmination of months of police investigations and court dates since the bodies of former Victoria College student David Miller and Hannah Witheridge from Norfolk were found on Sairee Beach on the Island of Koh Tao on 15 September last year.
