Passengers bound for Gatwick advised to check-in as normal

Ports of Jersey say no flights have been affected so far but they are expecting some knock on delays with British Airways flights this evening as the North Terminal has been placed on ‘lockdown’.

A man was arrested at Gatwick Airport and the North Terminal evacuated as a precautionary measure after a suspicious item was found.

The airport said the terminal had been fully evacuated on the landside, before passport control.

It follows a string of co-ordinated terror attacks in Paris that have left around 130 people dead. The so-called Islamic State have claimed responsibility for the attacks.

A spokesman for Ports of Jersey said easyJet flights would be unaffected as they landed at the South Terminal but warned they may be some issues with BA flights on Saturday evening.

Gatwick Airport has advised passengers to contact airlines for information.

One Islander, who was travelling through Gatwick with her husband, says she has been caught up in the situation.

‘We have been stuck here since 10.20 am. We were at baggage reclaim ready to walk out and doors all closed. Apparently the MOD has done a controlled explosion. We were told there is a 200 metre exclusion zone,’ she said.

‘They have given us all food and drink.’

The Jersey Rugby Athletic team had to cancel their match with Esher as they are also stuck in Gatwick.

The Ports of Jersey added that they would keep Islanders updated if Jersey’s terror threat level was to change.
