JERSEY has won a ‘Best Island’ accolade from readers of an international travel magazine.

In a poll conducted by The Traveller, a Condé Nast publication, Jersey was voted the “Best Island in the UK”, and beat competition from the other Crown Dependencies.

While the Island was first with a reader ranking of 95.29 out of 100, Guernsey sat in a lowly seventh place (81.90) and the Isle of Man was down in eighth with 74.29 points.

Second place went to the Isles of Scilly (93.77), while the Isle of Wight was third (91.24). The category included islands within the UK borders, as well as the Crown Dependencies.

Elsewhere, The Traveller named Madeira as “Best Island in Europe” in front of Italy’s Sardinia and Paphos in Greece. The Bahamas was first in the Caribbean and the Atlantic region, Bali was named the best island in Asia and Brazil’s Fernando de Noronha ranked top in Central and South America.

Fiji was ranked first in the Australasia and South Pacific category. Hilton Head Island in South Carolina was North America’s best island and the Maldives ranked first in the Africa and Indian Ocean category.
