UK entry Richard Fishleigh and Kim Bruton belied their 30th seeding to post the quickest overall time of 4.21.7 min on the Hacquoil and Cook Victoria Avenue stages in their Ford Escort RS.

But it was not a good start for reigning champions Simon Mauger and Brian Cammack as they picked up a penalty and finished 77th with 6.15.5 min. Top Jersey crew was James Hansford and Andrew de la Cour with 4.28.6 who start the second day in fourth place.

Four crews face a race against time to fix mechanical failures ahead of today’s Trinity stage which runs from 12.30-4 pm. The action then moves on to Les Platons from 12.48-4.20 pm, the Waterworks from 6.45-10 pm and Bellozanne from 7-10 pm.
