A 16-YEAR-OLD boy who stole a man’s mobile phone, forced him to kiss his shoes and punched him in the face has been given a three-month probation order.
The Youth Court heard that the victim was left feeling “humiliated and disgusted” and with bruises to his left eye and cheek after the offence on the evening of 13 March.
Legal adviser Samantha Morris said the teenager – who cannot be named due to his age – demanded that the victim give him “some weed” and began searching the victim’s pockets.
“He told him if he didn’t find him some weed he would batter him,” Ms Morris said.
The teenager found the victim’s mobile phone and said he would only return it when he gave him some drugs.
She added: “He became quite intimidating. He made the victim kiss his shoes and filmed him while he was doing it. He then punched him in the left side of his face.”
On the same evening, in the company of some other youths, the teenager kicked the wing mirror of a car and the driver’s side panel. The malicious damage was captured on a camera inside the vehicle.
Advocate Estelle Burns, defending, said the teenager had been associating with people who he now recognised were a bad influence on him, and had resolved to keep away from them in future.
Relief Magistrate Sarah Fitz said the assault was “a deeply unpleasant offence” and imposed the probation order.
