Plans to knock down Camellia Cottage, which sits in a former quarry at Mont de Gouray, St Martin, to build the homes were passed by three votes to one at the Planning Applications Panel meeting this week.
Planning recommended that the scheme should be approved, saying it was well-designed, and the majority of panel members felt that repairing the unstable rockface, which forms part of the application, was important.
However, Chick Anthony, the former president of the Société Jersiaise, and John Mesch, chairman of the Council for the Protection of Jersey’s Heritage, urged the panel, which consists of a group of politicians, to refuse the application.
They said it went against the Island Plan 2011, which sets planning guidelines.
