A 30-YEAR-OLD man who attacked his former partner and left the imprint of his shoe on her back has been convicted of grave and criminal assault.
Following a three-day trial in the Royal Court, a jury of eight men and four women unanimously found Addison Thomas Mazurke guilty of the charge.
The victim said Mazurke snatched her mobile phone from her while she was in the bath.
She climbed out to retrieve it and in a struggle he kicked her in the back, leaving the imprint of one of his trainers.
He denied the charge of grave and criminal assault and claimed she had invented the allegation to get him into trouble.
Crown Advocate Luke Sette, prosecuting, told the jury that the couple had had an on-off relationship “characterised by jealousy and paranoia” and described Mazurke as “a man with a temper which is easily ignited by feelings of jealousy”.
She argued that the victim had no reason to make up the allegation, saying she was “a credible and truthful witness”.
The jury also heard that Mazurke had previous convictions for assault and malicious damage.
He is already serving a four-year jail sentence, imposed in January, for grave and criminal assault and theft.
In September 2022, he and another man had attacked a man in King Street, stolen his shoes and filmed him as he injured and defenceless on the ground.
