Played at the New Gilson Hall Aaron Elliot put in a supreme performance to secure the under-11 boys’ title, winning all his matches without dropping a set, as Timothy Boulter took second place. The two then combined to claim the doubles title with an impressive 21-8, 21-10 victory over Cameron Hunt and Laurie Corbel.
Harrison Morley and Matthew Wallwork met in a close and entertaining U13 boys’ singles final, having won all their group games, with Morley edging the win 21-20, 21-15.
After some very close group matches Wallwork partnered with Tom Radiguet took the doubles title, a 21-12, 15-21 result over Dillon Pestana and Gianni Despres, eventual runners up, being the deciding factor.
Joshua Wallace beat Harry Messervy in the U15 boys’ final, 21-10, 21-16 while Bethany Hill claimed the girls’ title with a 21-12, 21-20 victory over Becky Cross.
Wallace and Jamie Henderson claimed the boys’ doubles honours beating Messervy and Radiguet 21-9, 21-11. Cross and Caroline Bignall won all of their matches with maximum points for the girls’ doubles with Hill and Courtney Blampied runners up. Wallace and Hill took the mixed doubles with Henderson and Cross second.
The U17 boys’ singles title was won by Matthew Bignall who defeated Brett Coombs-Goodfellow in a close final 21-18, 21-18 with the latter having the consolation that he can still compete in the same age group next year.
Bignall and Harry Davies won the doubles group with maximum points from Tom Marsey and Dan Durell who did very well to finish only seven points behind.
In the final of the girls’ doubles Emily Temple-Redshaw and Natasha Hutchings beat Jess Corbel and Tamsyn Abraham who put up an excellent fight before going down 19-21, 21-16, 21-11. Bignall and Hutchings beat Coombs-Goodfellow and Temple-Redshaw to the mixed doubles honour.
Alex Hutchings was victorious in the U19 boys’ singles with a 21-20, 21-16 win over Bignall who put up a very good account of himself against a much more experienced opponent. Hutchings also took the boys doubles’ title with Glen Brown, beating Harry Watson and Brett Coombs-Goodfellow 21-17, 21-13.
Jade Coombs-Goodfellow retained her U19 girls’ singles title with a 21-11, 21-13 victory over Temple-Redshaw in the final but it was the latter, paired with Hutchings who claimed the girls doubles. They won all their group matches with Coombs-Goodfellow and the much younger Cross giving a good account of herself in second.
The last final of the championship brought Harry Watson, making a welcome return to competitive badminton after several years out through injury, and Jade Coombs-Goodfellow the mixed title with a 21-18, 21-14 victory over Alex Hutchings and Georgie Durrell.
