A 13-YEAR-OLD boy who started a fire in public toilets and stole vapes from a shop has been given a three-month probation order by the Youth Court.

The boy, who cannot be named due to his age, was caught on CCTV carrying a traffic cone into the toilets in Patriotic Street car park in the early hours of 2 May.

The fire and rescue service had to be called to the scene at 6.30am that morning.

At 3am in the morning of 27 June and 9 July other youths broke into a shop in the town centre and began throwing vapes out through a broken window with the boy picking some up and taking them.

In addition to the probation order he will undertake a “restorative justice” programme to make amends to the shopkeeper.
