With the men’s pairs and triples and women’s singles and fours nearing completion of their groups, just the women’s fours have an outside chance of qualifying for the knock-out stages.
Brian Bisson, men’s team assistant manager, said: ‘Personally the results are disappointing and everyone is finding conditions really tough.
‘It’s very hot and the greens are extremely fast.
Most days the wind gets up too and when it starts to blow hard it causes havoc on the greens making it difficult for every one to find any consistency.
‘These conditions are totally different to anything we know.
Australia have been here seven times to prepare for the championship while Malaysia’s bowlers have been here for three months.
‘Conditions are beautiful to play on but it’s amazingly difficult to read.
‘Realistically our only chance of progress to the knock-outs this week is likely to be with the ladies’ fours.
They had an excellent win against Australia today but their progress depends on them winning their remaining games and several other results going their way.
‘Competition switches around next week to the men’s singles and triples and the women’s pairs and triples.
Hopefully a few more days playing will help the bowlers for next week and we can gain some better results all round.
‘Everyone is bowling their hearts out, a lot of good bowls are being bowled and hopefully things will start to turn in our favour soon.’
Bisson is assisting men’s team manager Frank Hambly who is managing the men’s triples who are playing at another club.
Bisson added: ‘The championships are being played at three clubs; the men’s pairs are at Shirley BC where the club have been tremendous.
We’ve not seen Frank or the triples bowlers all week because they are so far away, the only time we see them is when we are all back at our hotel in the evening.’
Jersey’s team is being led by Bowls Jersey president Margaret Le Marquand.
