BRITISH bowls champion Lindsey Greechan will have the chance to defend her title next year after she won three out of four titles at last weekend’s Jersey Bowls finals.
Greechan, pictured, automatically qualifies to represent Jersey at next year’s British Isles women’s outdoor singles championship, which she won in June.
On Saturday the former WIBC world indoor under 25 champion beat Karina Bisson 21-11 in the women’s National Singles at Les Creux, having already won the women’s National Pairs with partner Katie Nixon, defeating Sue Dingle and Gaynor Thomas 26-10, before going on to win the Bowls Jersey Sets Singles over Gean O’Neil 2-1.
Bisson won the coveted British title two years ago, but was unable to match Greechan’s prowess in the Jersey qualifier and will not get the chance to compete next year.
Greechan said: ‘I’m so pleased to have won the singles event as it means I get to go on and defend my title. Karina is a very good player; it was a hard game but I did feel confident and I always hoped I could get through and win it.
‘The competition in Jersey is very strong at the moment – quite a lot of players are able to go away and play at world level, so the games are always going to be tough, and playing outdoors can make it tricky for all of us – anybody can beat you outside.’
