But a little bit of luck in several games at the Indoor Stadium at Grainville and Jersey could well have had a much better return.
But it wasn’t to be so Guernsey’s bowlers will be well represented as Channel Islands champions in the British Isles Championships in March.
Jersey Indoor Stadium manager Jean Lowery said: ‘It’s got to be Jersey’s heaviest defeat but the final score could easily have been a lot closer – it looks a heavy defeat but when you taken into consideration three of the games were very close we were certainly not thrashed! ‘The ladies pairs lost out on an extra end; the men’s triples lost by just one shot while John Lowery played well in the singles but again he had no luck.
‘Guernsey played well over the two days, they also had luck at times and that’s the way it goes sometimes.
Had we had the rub of the green we could well have been looking a five wins for Guernsey and four for Jersey.’ Guernsey’s Alison Merrien was the star of the show having a clean sweep of the ladies’ titles.
Merrien won the singles 21-9 against Gaynor Thomas although final scoreline was not a true reflection of the game.
The Sarnian will now attempt to retain the British title she won last year.
Jersey’s Lindsey and Helen Greechan were 19-17 ahead after 18 ends of the ladies pairs final and it was 21-all after 21 ends therefore an extra end had to be played.
The Greechans were holding five shots and praying that Merrien would retrieve the end but she did, with her last bowl, to take shot and the game 22-21.
John Lowery played in four finals, winning just the fours with Thomas Greechan, Jamie MacDonald and Alan Shaw, 26-10 against Nicky Donaldson’s quartet.
Lowery lost to Donaldson 21-18 in the singles final and Lowery, Jamie McDonald and Thomas Greechan dropped a two on the final end to lose in the triples final against Donaldson, Nick Mollet and Steve Desperques.
