Festival organisers have told the JEP that the ‘mutual aid’ officers – who are here to help police the event – were the most expensive act of the two-day event being staged at the Royal Jersey Showground in Trinity today and tomorrow. They have had to foot the bill for the officers out of their own pockets, including their flights, accommodation and 16 hours pay per day. Last year the cost of nine UK officers was £27,000 but this was absorbed by the States. Warren Le Sueur said that this year the bill for officers came to 20% of their running costs including bands, equipment, 180 security guards and a 60 ft stage – equating to £15 of every music fan’s £74 weekend ticket. And Mr Le Sueur is unhappy that for an event with little history of crime and a large private security force already employed, they have had to pay so much towards policing.
