There were unconfirmed reports that the blaze, believed to a furze fire, was connected to the Moulin de Lecq Bonfire Night event.
Writing on Twitter, one eyewitness said: ‘Devastating to see the fire at Moulin de Lecq on the hill. Hope everyone’s safe and praying for the Jersey Fire & Rescue team’.
Speaking to the JEP shortly after she praised the Fire and Rescue Service for responding quickly and arriving ‘in force, thankfully’.
Others took to social media to urge people to avoid the area.
It is thought the fire was spotted around 20 minutes after the fireworks finished and as the hundreds of people who had attended the event were leaving.
A local resident living close to the Moulin de Lecq also praised the fire service for their quick actions, which she said meant the fire was out by around 11 pm.
She said it had been a scary experience for those living in the area but added: ‘The firefighters did a tremendous job as usual.’
