Her progress to the knockout stage took a bit of a knock in her penultimate group match, when she was beaten on a tiebreak by Scotland’s Ailsa Robertson.

Lindsey seemed to have things sewn up when she whitewashed the Scot, who had not won a match in the group, in the opening set – but took her eye off the ball, and dropped a full house on the first end of the second.

Three ends later, she was struggling at 0-7, but she made a desperate bid to tie the set, scoring a single, a treble and a double, finishing just one shot short of winning the match with a tied set.

In the tiebreak, she again struck out for victory, winning the first end, but Robertson took her chance, and won the next two ends for an unlikely 0-9, 7-6, 2-1 win that proved just how cruel the sets format can be.

Ironically, Robertson’s only win in five group games turned out to be Greechan’s sole defeat, and the Jersey star went on to clinch her place in the semi-finals with a 9-3, 8-2 straight sets win over England’s China Egerton.

Standing between Lindsey, who had to settle for runner-up spot in the group, and a place in the final is Lianna Bichard, who will, of course, enjoy home advantage in today’s fascinating Les Quesne-style encounter.

The talking point yesterday, however, was the achievement of Welsh disco-dancing duo, Kerry and Kelly Packwood.

The teenage twins from Pontypool both qualified for the knockout stage, and will meet in the other semi final.

Even though he lost in straight sets to England junior champion Jamie Chestney, Jersey’s Jamie MacDonald went into his last group game knowing that a win over Malaysian Safuan Said would probably put him in the semi finals.

Sadly, it was not to be, as the Malaysian, who won an bronze medal in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, came out on top, 11-3, 8-3.

Greechan’s day had a downbeat ending, when, with Malaysian Salahuddin Razali, she lost in dramatic fashion to another Malaysian, Nor Iryani Azmi, and local hero Craig Dorey in the semi final of the pairs championship.

Losing the first set, 2-12, Razali and Lindsey bounced back to win then second, 7-2, but were pipped on the third end of the tiebreak.
