LOCAL riders and horses have been competing in the inaugural “Island Quest” dressage competition, which took the shape of a league format over four events, organised by Haie Fleurie Equestrian.
In simple terms, dressage is an equestrian sport where horses and riders perform, in harmony, set moves in a rectangular arena while being judged against a set criteria.
Each movement is then marked out of ten to give a total.
This provided the basis for the Island Quest Individual competition, where each riders score from their test is turned into a percentage.
A leaderboard was then created using each individual rider’s percentage, with the highest topping the leaderboard.
In the team competition, riders were required to form teams of four riders, (with up to three reserve riders).
At any one competition, only four riders per team could compete at their chosen level with their top three rider scores being counted and combined.
In the final event of the Island Quest, the leading teams and individuals battled for a share of the £800 prize fund.
In the U21 Individual event, brother and sister Dylan (7) and Ashleigh (11) Eder were tied on equal points coming entering the final show, with Dylan, the youngest competitor, securing an overall win.
In the U21 Team event, again closely contested, only the top two teams competed this time and the Dressage Diamonds took the win over the Trotting Teenage Dirtbags.
Cilla Perchard took home the overall win finishing at the top of the leaderboard for the Open Individual event on equal points with both her two horses.
In the Open team Final, team All The Gear took the win finishing top of the leaderboard, four points ahead of team Just About.
