ISLANDERS should avoid Palmyra Road in St Helier due to a gas leak, the fire service has warned.

Residents in the area – which is between Midvale Road and Val Plaisant – are being asked to stay indoors and keep windows closed.

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service crews were on the scene on Friday morning.

In a post on social media, JFRS said: “Residents in the Palmyra Road area are asked to stay indoors and keep your windows closed, due to a gas leak.

“If you’re not at home, please avoid the area in the meantime.”

In a subsequent update, the fire service confirmed that they had “handed over to Island Energy and our crews have stood down”.

They thanked residents for their cooperation.
