It was organised by the newly-established Indiansinjersey group and is thought to have been the first time the Hindu festival had been celebrated in Jersey.
One of the founder members, Mahesh Bhatia, said that it had been a great success, and people were looking forward to the next event in the cultural calendar, Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
‘People were not just asking when the next event was, but were demanding that we do it again,’ he said.
‘I have already begun receiving e-mails from people who could not attend, saying that they wanted to be included next time.
‘There was an overwhelming desire to continue with these celebrations.
It was an excellent and very exciting night, and people thoroughly enjoyed it.
Most of the community was pleasantly surprised that there are so many Indians in the Island.’
