Eight athletes to sit national test in Sheffield

The competition is being held at the Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield and all the youngsters have already achieved a testing national entry standard in their selected events.The competition is the highest standard the promising young athletes can achieve and the fact that they have qualified at this level is an achievement in itself.Jersey Athletics Development manager Andrew Winnie said: ‘Jersey’s athletes are all at the younger end of their age groups and anyone of them getting onto the podium will be a great result.

Six get on to the podium with medals going to the top three while the others receive certificates.’Representing Jersey in various age groups and disciplines are: Jamie Stevenson (discus), Paul Dingle (triple jump), Stephen Prosser (100m), Simon Phelan (high jump), Stephanie Le Cornu (long jump), Rebecca Slater (javelin), Rebecca Duquemin (discus) and Camela Monks (triple jump).Courtney Williams misses out in the long jump because of a hamstring injury while thrower Lauren Thérin is also absent as she is representing Great Britain this weekend in Canada.The National Schools Championships take place tomorrow and on Saturday.
