IN a weekend of finals, St Brelade Bowls Club set the stage for their club’s 2024 Finals Weekend.
Both singles trophies remained in the hands of their previous winners with Graeme Le Cornu convincingly besting Mike Videgrain 21-9 in the Men’s, and Sue Noel triumphing over Ethel Southern in a nail-biting Ladies’ affair 21-20.
That was not it for Southern though, as she was a busy bowler over the weekend, competing in a whopping five separate final clashes.
Southern and Pat Slous conquered the Ladies Drawn Pairs final against Ro Le Boutillier and Lynne Cummins 18-15, and, meeting Le Boutillier again, Southern alongside Lloyd Dorey took home the Two Wood Drawn Pairs against Le Boutillier and partner Syd Holley 17-12.
The winning partnership then added Lynne Cummins to their roster for another title, this time against Slous, Peter Robinson and Stewart Logan in the Two Wood Drawn Triples final, which they won 18-14.
Logan went on to win the Men’s Novice title 21-8 against Jeff Ruellan.
Noddy, however, went on to win the Mixed Drawn Triples title with Roy Le Sueur and Martyn Luce.
The trio took out Mick Le Brocq, Bob Fairhurst and Slous comfortably 22-11.
The racket sport legend that is Juliette Waymouth added to her silverware collection as she shone in the Ladies’ Novice event, toppling Bernice Boylan 21-6.
Megan Kivlin and Liz Wall were also busy bowlers over the weekend.
Kivlin took the plaudits in the Mixed Singles and the Mixed Sets against Tony Smith (21-7) and Le Boutillier (2-0) respectively.
She was able to top off her weekend off with a win in the Select Mixed Pairs alongside Dave Gallichan, against singles champions Le Cornu and Sue Noel 17-14.
Wall was able to put a stop to Kivlin’s dominance as she scraped over the line in the Ladies Handicap Trophy before the Mixed Singles and Sets champion 21-19.
Wall was also an integral part of the rinks team that took home the weekend’s Eddie Buesnel Drawn Fours Trophy.
Alongside Richard Allo, Bob Fairhurst and Jean Luce, Wall defeated Southern, Dickie Allen, Estelle Burns and John le Maistre 17-13.
Elsewhere, after losing to Kivlin, Smith had another chance for a singles title in the Two Wood Vets Singles, a change that did not go wasted as he triumphed over Gwen Stark 21-7.
Also, Allo partnered by Alan Pick beat Dorey and Terry O’Brien to the mark in the Men’s Drawn Pairs game 21-10.
St Brelade Bowls Club president, Graham Thomas played 27 ends in his Men’s Handicap singles match against Richard Collinson, managed to amass an impressive 24 shots to Collinson’s 16.
Finally for their finals weekend, the much-coveted Married Pairs trophy proved a nip-and-tuck game, and was taken by Peter and Jenny Robinson against Dave and Ro le Boutillier 15-14.
Additionally, the club leagues have also reached their conclusions, including this year’s novel Mixed Singles Leagues, which attracted a magnificent number of entries.
