A 28-YEAR-OLD woman has admitted having cannabis in her home – but she said she possessed the drug because her partner had been prescribed medicinal cannabis but was unable to afford it.

Lauren Margaret Renouf appeared in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

St Saviour Centenier Steven Laffoley-Edwards, prosecuting, told the court that States police officers went to Renouf’s flat in St Saviour at 7.50am on the morning of 10 August after learning that there were drugs inside.

He said they found the property “in a state of disarray” and discovered herbal cannabis, cannabis resin, scales and a grinder. The drugs could have fetched between £460 and £685 but he said the accused had no intention of supplying them to others.

Advocate Nicholas Mière, defending, pointed out that Renouf immediately admitted the offence and had been “compliant and co-operative” with the police throughout.

He said her partner could no longer afford medicinal cannabis and added: “She made a very bad decision to purchase cannabis.”

Magistrate Bridget Shaw decided to postpone sentencing to allow for a background report and released Renouf on bail until 22 October.
