A SURGE of girl-power is what a group of Islanders hope will inspire them to swim the entire length of the largest lake in central Europe.

The six women, led by veteran English Channel swimmer Sally Minty-Gravett, leave Jersey this weekend ahead of their attempt to swim 45 miles from one end of Lake Geneva to the other.

After several delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and other issues, the team is finally ready to embark on the relay challenge, which could take in the region of 25 hours to complete.

Two members of the team, Mrs Minty-Gravett and Julia Morris, recently completed the Dardanelles/Hellespont swim between Europe and Asia, and the duo will be joined by Fay de Gruchy, Alice Harvey, Karen le Cornu and Rachel Sayers.
