SCRUTINY reviews have been launched into more than a billion pounds of planned government spending.
The government this month unveiled its proposed Budget for the next four years. The Budget, formerly known as the Government Plan, will be subject to a States Assembly vote.
In the meantime, the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel has announced a review of the spending plans to ensure that they are providing “good value for taxpayers’ money” and will report back with recommendations to States Members.
The Children’s, Education and Home Affairs Scrutiny Panel; Economic and International Affairs Scrutiny Panel; Environment, Housing and Infrastructure Scrutiny Panel; and Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel will also each be reviewing the proposed Budget.
CSSP chair Deputy Helen Miles said: “It’s absolutely vital that there is a thorough review of how ministers propose to fund the continuation of existing government services as well as the delivery of their ministerial priorities.”
The former Home Affairs Minister added: “Scrutiny’s detailed examination of the government’s proposed Budget aims to offer Islanders assurance that it will provide good value for taxpayers’ money. We want to hear from anyone who will be impacted by the proposals and wishes to contribute to the review.”
The Budget debate is due to take place on 26 November.
