Community service order for drink-driver

The Magistrates Court

A MOTORIST who drove his BMW while he was over the legal alcohol limit has been sentenced to 100 hours of community service.

The police were alerted by a member of the public on the evening of 7 July when 43-year-old Jose Manuel Correia Andrade appeared to be drink-driving, the Magistrate’s Court heard.

Officers stopped him on Grande Route de Rozel and found that he had 88 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal maximum is 35 micrograms.

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu said: “This was a very high level of alcohol in the breath.”

But he noted that Andrade had no previous convictions and had pleaded guilty early, so imposed a community service order.
