AN official application for a major town development, which includes proposals to build a 103-bedroom ‘aparthotel’ and 238 flats, has been registered on the planning website.

The £120 million Les Sablons scheme, by development company Le Masurier, stretches from 31 to 41 Broad Street across to 19 to 29 Commercial Street and also features plans for a large courtyard, shops and restaurants. News about the development was published last month. Now, an official application has been submitted to the Planning Department.

A planning statement, submitted as part of the application by MS Planning, says: ‘At the heart of Les Sablons will be a landscaped central courtyard, providing a car-free public route for pedestrians, linking to and from Broad Street and Commercial Street, from the heart of St Helier towards the bus station and onwards to the Waterfront.

‘On the south-western side, the courtyard will provide access to a new Wilde Aparthotel by Staycity, with 103 rooms. Around the other sides of the courtyard there will be four lobby areas, providing access to 238 new apartments. Each apartment will have a private balcony or, in the case of those apartments facing Broad Street, access to a dedicated private roof terrace.’

The statement adds: ‘The courtyard will also be animated by food and drink outlets, plus other commercial/retail activity, with al-fresco seating areas, and there will be public art delivered by internationally-renowned local artists. This will be a car-free public space, with 260 cycle spaces provided for residents in dedicated and convenience stores located near each residential core.’

Developers say they hope to receive approval by September, with work potentially starting within the first four months of 2023, and the project being completed by 2025.
